Tom Wright CBE joined the British Tourist Authority, now VisitBritain, in June 2002 from the Saga Group, where he was Managing Director of Saga Holidays and a Group Board Director. Before joining Saga he worked for Scottish and Newcastle plc as Marketing and Sales Director for Center Parcs in England, and then Northern Europe based in Rotterdam.
At VisitBritain Tom developed the “Leading the World to Britain” strategy, helping to deliver a record 30 million visitors to Britain in 2005. VisitBritain was voted the world’s leading tourist and convention bureau by over 200,000 of the world’s travel and tourism professionals, and has consistently increased its return on investment to a record 47:1 last year.
Tom is also a member of the Marketing Group of Great Britain, a Director of Visit London, South West Tourism and the European Travel Commission, a Trustee of the Imperial War Museum, and Chair of both the Society of Ticket Agents and Retailers (STAR) and the Public Diplomacy Partners Group.
Tom was awarded a CBE in the 2007 Queen’s Birthday Honours for services to the tourism industry.
